Roof Color Visualizer

Roomvana's roof color visualizer puts a new roof on a photo of your own house, so you can see how charcoal shingles, a black standing-seam metal roof or terracotta tile sit with your siding before you sign a quote. Upload a photo that shows the roof, pick a finish, and the AI changes only the roof — the siding, windows, door and yard are the same as in your photo. A new roof is a 20- to 30-year decision made from a sample board the size of a shoe box; seeing the color across the whole roof plane is the quickest way to check it against the rest of the house. It's free to try, and you can test it on our example houses before signing up.

How to change your roof with AI

  1. 01

Upload a photo that shows the roof

Step back far enough that the roof planes are clearly in frame — from across the street usually works. A slightly raised angle, or a photo from the end of the driveway, shows more of the roof.

  2. 02

    Use the roof tool

This page opens Roomvana's roof tool, which only ever changes the roof — there is nothing to switch, and the rest of the house is left alone.

  3. 03

    Pick a roof finish

Choose from six finishes: charcoal, black, weathered-wood or slate-gray architectural shingles, a black standing-seam metal roof, or terracotta clay tile.

  4. 04

    Compare with your siding

Slide between before and after, try a second finish on the same photo, and share the link with your roofer or HOA before you pick a color from the sample board.

What the AI can change

It restyles

  • Shingle color (charcoal, black, weathered wood, slate gray)
  • Asphalt shingles to standing-seam metal
  • Asphalt shingles to terracotta clay tile
  • Six roof finishes, tried side by side

It never touches

  • The siding and its color
  • Windows, trim and doors
  • The shape of the roof and its pitch
  • The yard and driveway
  • The camera angle of your photo

Frequently asked questions

What is a roof color visualizer?

+

A roof color visualizer shows a new roof color or material on a photo of your own house before you replace the roof. Roomvana's version changes only the roof in the photo you upload — the siding, windows, door and yard stay as they are — so you can judge the roof against your actual siding color instead of a sample board or a stock house.

Which roof colors and materials can I try?

+

Roomvana's roof color visualizer offers six finishes: charcoal architectural shingles, black architectural shingles, weathered-wood architectural shingles, slate-gray architectural shingles, a black standing-seam metal roof and terracotta clay barrel tile. They cover the color families most asphalt shingle lines carry: dark charcoals and blacks, plus brown-gray blends such as GAF Timberline Weathered Wood or Owens Corning Duration Driftwood.

Will it match a specific shingle brand and color?

+

No. The finishes are generic color families, not one manufacturer's product line, and shingle blends vary in granule color from brand to brand. Use the render to choose a direction — dark versus mid-tone, shingle versus metal — then look at real full-size shingle samples from your roofer, outdoors, against your siding.

What roof color goes with my siding?

+

A common rule is to contrast in lightness and match in warmth: white or light-gray siding pairs with charcoal or black roofs, beige and cream siding with weathered-wood or brown blends, and dark navy or green siding with charcoal. The fastest check is to run two roof colors on a photo of your own house and compare them side by side.

Can I see a metal roof on my house?

+

Yes. Pick Black standing-seam metal and the AI replaces your shingles with vertical metal panels on the same roof planes. It's a quick way to see whether a metal roof suits a farmhouse, modern or rural house before you ask for a metal quote, which typically costs more than asphalt shingles.

Does a dark roof make the house hotter?

+

Dark roofs absorb more sunlight than light ones, so in hot, sunny climates a black roof can raise attic temperatures. Many shingle lines offer 'cool roof' versions with reflective granules, including in darker colors. The visualizer shows the look; ask your roofer about solar reflectance if cooling bills matter where you live.

Is the roof color visualizer free?

+

Yes. You can try it free with a photo of your house — no credit card needed. After that, a one-time credit pack (from $14.99 for 30 designs) removes the watermark and unlocks custom instructions and commercial usage rights. No subscription, and credits never expire. You can also try the tool on our example houses before you sign up.

What photo works best for a roof preview?

+

The roof needs to be clearly visible. A photo from across the street in daylight usually shows enough of a pitched roof; for a low-slope roof, shoot from farther away or from a slightly higher spot. Avoid photos where trees cover large parts of the roof, since the AI can only change what it can see.

Will it change my siding or windows?

+

No. The roof color visualizer changes only the roof. To try a new siding color too, use Roomvana's exterior paint visualizer on the result, or redesign the whole exterior in one go with the AI exterior design tool.

Can I show the result to my HOA or roofer?

+

Yes. Download the before/after or share its link. HOAs that restrict roof colors often want to see the proposed color on the house; tell them the actual product and color name from your roofer's quote, since the render is a visual approximation.

Can I compare several roof colors?

+

Yes. Run the same photo with two or three finishes — charcoal against weathered wood, or shingles against standing-seam metal — and compare the results side by side before you choose from the sample board.
